COVID-19 Paradigm Shift

A major paradigm shift is happening as we watch. Employers who were reluctant about permitting telecommuting have been forced into accepting the practice. Most will find this experience with tele-work (with a few exceptions for the technologically challenged and slackers), isn’t quite as scary as they feared. Remote supervision and management strategies will be enhanced and implemented which will further normalize working remotely. The SARS-CoV-2 virus is likely to become endemic and not go away completely. As a result, the need for social distancing will remain necessary. Public health concerns will demand that employees no longer be crammed together in tight spaces. Either you increase the sq ft your employees occupy or you need to thin out the number of on-site workers. This is a reality that companies should be planning for now. Make use of the current downtime for some executive brainstorming. Dig into your employee manuals and revise your procedures and policies to cover the new virtual workforce. Document how you expect your remote users to behave, how they will be supervised and how their performance will be evaluated. The work paradigm is changing. Devise a plan to incorporate it into your operations.C
